spokeo

Has anyone in 23things had an experience with spokeo? It is a social networking aggregator site which collect e-mail addresses and personal data such as home address, kid's name, husband's name, etc. Apparently it can be used to collect enough information that an unknown person can create a page about someone they don't know.

Help. This scares me.

Lesson 7 Microblogging

I can tweet because I'm on Twitter. I have so many new accounts and passwords and things to keep up that I don't know how I'll ever keep it straight! Linda and I worked on 23 things Kansas tonight after school tonight. As we were trying to figure out if it was working, Daneen commented on it so we knew we had done it right! Thanks, Daneen! Have a Happy Easter!!!

RSS Feeds

Remember the good old days when we didn't have a worry in the world. We could play with our dolls, ride our bikes and we only had channel 13? Well, I feel overwhelmed with all this technology and information! How can I keep up with it all? I can't even keep my e-mail box under 100! I subscribed to the 3 RSS feeds that Alicia subcribed to. I need to figure out how to unsubscribe to the New York Times. I don't think it will be hard. I just think I'm worn out and tired tonight and can't think any more. State testing sure gets old. I feel like all I do is walk around in circles for 6 weeks monitoring the kids. The teachers do it for 6 days each. I do it for 6 times 6 teachers each. Oh, well, that's life for the next month at school. I actually do get to teach the week after spring break, so that will be a nice change.

Week 5 RSS Feeds

Ok, all I have done is watched the videos about RSS feeds. I haven't connected, joined or what ever you call it. I do have some questions for my quick learning friends. Do I need to connect a link to Flickr to my blog or vice versa? How do I do that? I am getting so many log ons and passwords, I don't know how I'll ever keep track. Does anyone have a secret to this madness???? I will work on it more this week.

Week 4 Photo Sharing

Flickr is really pretty cool. I want to explore it more and maybe do some personal pictures instead of just school pictures. I don't know quite how I could use it in school. Legally, can we post pictures of kids? I guess we could post pictures of things like the book Christmas trees that several librarians across the state did this last year. I'd like some more ideas of how people think we might use it. Is it just me, but does it take anyone else hours to read and learn about each step we do for 23thingskansas and then do it? Maybe it's my age or just my style of learning. Once I do it, I get the hang of it. I do better with a class, a teacher and other students. Linda and I have met twice to work together on some of these things, but as you can see, we are very behind. However, we are still plugging along very slowly. I just don't have much down time to sit here and work on stuff. I get involved in too many things. I spread myself too thin. Even right now as I say that it has to stop, I am now teaching 2nd grade Sunday school and taking notes at the Educational Ministries Board. I have a dinner meeting and ceremony to plan for a professional women's group I belong, invitations to send to potential members, phone calls to make and paper work to do. I also have to plan a meeting with these potential members before April 8th. I do have a committee, but with my name listed as chair, they're not worried about it. No one has contacted me to ask what we should be doing. So guess who will probably end up doing most of the work? I guess I need to just plan a committee meeting and see who will help with what. Are blogs for griping? Can I just gripe and get stuff off my chest? Does anyone really want to read what I have to complain about? Poor me!!! I know we're all too busy. Life is going by so fast and there are so many things I want to do. I'm really working on my priorities, but as I said before, I learn and work slowly. But, I am positive!!! I will succeed!!! Thank you to anyone who has read this far, you must be a true friend to listen to my boohooing. Love ya!

Lesson 3 Webinars

This week we're learning about Webinars in 23thingsKansas. I haven't gone to a live one yet, but listened to an archived one. I listened to Stephen Abrams Twenty Five Technologies to Watch and How through SirsiDynix. I believe it is close to being a couple years old. Two years ago I had never heard of some of these technology things and he was talking about technologies I'm just learning about now. He talked about the potential of each of the technologies and how he uses them. It was very useful, but boy, I have a lot more to learn! He said he read more than 500 blogs a day!!! How do people find the time to blog, read other's blogs, play on Facebook, and read their 3 e-mail accounts? I know I do not use my time as efficiently as I could. I wish I would have worked on that when I was younger, but I was busy being a mommy of 3, going back to college, working full time and being involved in extended family. I'm getting off track now, I guess that's part of my time issue problem. I think the potential for this in the next 10 years will be phenomenal. I could see businesses, classrooms, families, Facebook friends doing this as a way of becoming more personal through live communication with each other, not just typing or texting, but having real conversations with our voices.

Week Two: Facebook

Facebook is our Week 2 assignment. I still don't get Facebook completely. I can't believe all the people who get on it and the time they spend. Where do they get the time to do that? I'd like to hear how you use it.
